About Textec

Textec Software specializes in linguistic systems. These systems are designed to be implemented to improve a search (in or for documents) or used where information (from documents) should be extracted.

The main product is the "linguistic engine" WebCANAL, which has been on the market and developed for the last 15 years. WebCANAL is a system which can perform a linguistic analysis for the most important european languages in order to recognise the basic form of a word (lemmatization), to generate variants of words (generation), to deliver synonyms and semantically related words and to translate at word level.

The functions of other systems can be improved on the basis of WebCANAL results - for instance automatic clustering, the summarizing of texts or language recognition.

WebCANAL has been used in numerous applications for years - for example in the catalogue search at libraries, in internet searches, in content management systems and in monolingual and multilingual full text retrieval systems. Particularly important to highlight is the speed and quality of the results which are delivered by WebCANAL. In particular the system calls upon an extensive dictionary (more than 2.5 million word forms for the German version) and additionally a component for the segmentation of (unknown) compounds.

Development of WebCANAL began as part of the international research project E.M.I.R. (European Multilingual Information Retrieval - within the EU program ESPIRIT II) and has been continued as part of other research and industry projects.
