Instant circulation (without retro cataloguing)

Start issuing stock straight away

With LIBERO, your library can start issuing stock immediately, i.e. without previous retrospective cataloguing.

To do this the system is set up with so called empty catalogue records, for example with the title 'Dummy, must be catalogued', which each have one item record attached.

The range of barcode numbers corresponds to the barcode labels already purchased or printed by the library.

All empty catalogue records have the option "suppress OPAC display" checked, which means they cannot be searched for in the OPAC. These records can still be searched in the internal catalogue.

The item records also receive the item status 'Warning – record without title', which is displayed at returns so that the items actually circulating are given priority in being forwarded to retrospective cataloguing.

Membership data should already have been recorded. A one-off transfer of member data is possible, for example from the personnel files of a university or company, provided these files are made available in electronic form.

When issuing an item that is not on the database, a barcode label is stuck to the item at the issues desk, after which it can be issued immediately.

Once the item is issued a brief title or call number or both can be added to the catalogue record, so that this information can be printed on receipts or overdue notices.

Advantages of instant circulation

  • It immediately releases library capacity, which can be used, for example, for retrospective cataloguing.
  • Circulation statistics are immediately captured and can then be evaluated.
  • The first items to be captured are those that are actually being used.
